About us

The Minehead and District Lions Club is part of a worldwide organisation of more than 45,000 clubs dedicated to serving their local communities. With more than 1.35 million members, the Lions form the largest service club organisation internationally.

We are a friendly club with 18 members drawn from a variety of professions and backgrounds. Our main objective is to help those in need locally through fundraising or more direct assistance. We also support international projects by sending money to other Lions Clubs across the world when disaster or need strikes. You will often see us at fairs and carnivals or collecting in local shops. We are also lucky to have Father Christmas join us in December as we tour the streets of Minehead. All the money we raise is used in charitable donations.

Our recent events have included stalls at the Dunster Country Fair, Porlock Fair, the Raft Race, Minehead Red Arrows show and Watchet Carnival as well as collections in the Minehead Co-op, Tesco and Morrisons. We have run secondhand book shops in Minehead and hold a regular quiz in November to raise money for a Christmas party for local children with special needs. We have held several concerts featuring male voice choirs, brass bands and an Irish folk music using the Regal Theatre in Minehead. In December we attend the Porlock and Minehead late-night shopping events. Have a look at our Events page for more details and to see what is coming up. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas and recent new additions to our efforts have included an annual Sponsored Walk and Auction of Promises. Click on the links to find out more.

Socially we hold events most months, including skittles evenings, car treasure hunts, barbeques, dinners, games evenings and walks. We enter teams for some of the charity quizzes locally and although we never do very well we always have fun!

If you live in Minehead or the surrounding area you might well already know one of our members, have a look at the Members page to see if you recognise any of the names. See our Meetings page for details of where and when we meet. Please contact a member if you would like to attend a meeting. Membership of the Lions Club is by invitation only.

Once you are a member there is a £60 annual fee (paid in two instalments). This goes towards supporting
the admin involved in running the Lions organisation locally, nationally and internationally.
Any excess may be used for Club social events. Club administration costs are kept
separately from Charity money; none of the money raised is used for this purpose.

Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to meeting you!
